Overview
Drawing on its beginnings in the 1970s as a substantial practice in both oil and gas property transactions and finance, Stone Pigman has developed an interdisciplinary approach to natural resources and environmental services. We are experienced in all major areas of environmental law, including mineral rights and reclamation, landowner "legacy" suits, air, water and waste permitting, Superfund clean-up, hazardous and solid waste management, recycling and disposal, air and water quality, toxic substances and wetlands and other real estate development and lending requirements. Our lawyers are able to handle land use and zoning issues, including riparian and wetlands issues.
Our representation includes counseling of corporate and individual clients on federal and state legislation and regulation; environmental permitting and compliance proceedings; NEPA challenges, and negotiations with the Environmental Protection Agency and other federal and state entities regarding site investigations, sitings and cleanups. The firm has participated at the state level in the drafting of and lobbying for proposed legislation, as well as other environmental rulemaking matters.
Our lawyers are active in the defense of industry manufacturers, waste storage facilities, refiners, chemical production, and metal recyclers, manufacturers and insurers in asbestos, environmental cleanup, waste exposure, environmental discharge and other toxic tort litigation. The firm has represented clients in actions brought by the Department of Justice, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality for regulatory compliance actions for CERCLA claims.
We regularly work with experts in toxicology, environmental science, chemistry, conservation, and hazardous materials management. We have the experience and resources needed to address technical issues that often arise in court and to satisfy the concerns of regulators, communities, and individuals.
