Annie McBride will present "Breaking It Down Series: A Deep Dive into Commercial Leases for Entrepreneurs" at the Urban League Louisiana Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation on May 21, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.

At its most basic level, a lease allows a tenant to occupy space in exchange for paying the landlord rent. In the commercial context, leases cover this and much, much more. Commercial leases are often lengthy, complex legal documents that govern issues impacting a tenant's bottom line, such as rent structure, buildout obligations, use limitations, insurance requirements, and maintenance and repair of the leased space. Therefore, it is critical for a commercial tenant to understand what its lease says and how that lease impacts the tenant's day-to-day operations.
